Welcome to St Albans United Synagogue
Over the coming weeks, we will be making some additions to the website (some big and some subtle) so please keep an eye out!
Our Chinese and Musical Friday Night
On 24th April, our members enjoyed a new experience when Rabbi Daniel Sturgess introduced them to the delights of a Chinese kiddush following a Carlebach-style Friday night service.
While many present were in full voice, singing some of their favourite Shabbat tunes sung, others had the pleasure of hearing and learning them for the first time – hopefully to wow us with their singing voices next time. At one point, there was even a spontaneous round of dancing!
After the service, the hot kiddush was ready. Brought in from the kosher restaurant Met Su Yan, treats such as spare ribs, chicken satay kebabs, seaweed and spring rolls were served. There was even a vegetarian alternative, which went down just as well.
As one congregant put it, ” it made a wonderful change from chopped herring.”
Unfortunately, being Shabbat, there are no photos of the evening, so you will just have to join us next time to see the smiles on everybody’s face.
